Shadowbox volunteer and all around good guy, Sam Hensley has just had his short film “When Bikes Go Bad” accepted at the prestigious Filmed by Bike Film Festival in Portland, Oregon. The Shadowbox wants Sam to be able to go to Portland to see his masterpiece unspool on the big screen. We’re asking YOU to help us get him there. We’ve set this page of up for $10 donations but if you’d like to give more (or less) contact us at info@theshadowboxcinema.com.

Zombie Prom & Keri’s Birthday Bash!

Celebrate The Shadowbox’s 2 year anniversary, April 7th 8pm with Roanoke’s first Zombie Prom! Zombie costumes are required, so dress to distress.

Stevie D of the Illbotz with be providing a killer rockabilly soundtrack to the evening. There will be a full bar and plenty of brains to munch on as well as bloody prom photos. So, ring up your steady and ask him or her to the deadest party in town.

This is also Keri’s Birthday Party (presents are encouraged)

Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead
decided to punch his way out of his mother’s womb. Shortly thereafter he
grew a beard.

Come out to The Shadowboxth March 10 and help us celebrate the birthday of the world’s greatest 80′s action star: Ch…uck Norris. We will be debuting PRIME CHUCK, a Chuck Norris trailer retrospective. (Let’s face it, all the best parts are in the trailer anyway, right?) So enjoy some cake and party favors on us.

24 Hour Iron Swede Filmmaking Challenge

Combining Iron Chef with our popular Sweded film festivals, The Shadowbox offers up the ultimate filmmaking challenge. Teams will be given only 24 hours to swede a film and deliver it back to us. Just like Iron Chef, everyone will be given the same “ingredient” to interpret however they please.

THE SCREENING OF ALL THE ENTRIES WILL TAKE PLACE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH, 8PM AT THE SHADOWBOX.

Filmmakers get into the screening for free and it’s free to enter the challenge.

A Festivus for the Rest of Us!

Here at The Shadowbox, we do things a little different. So, when the idea of a Christmas party came up we naturally thought of…A Festivus Party!Festivus is a holiday featured in “The Strike” episode of Seinfeld. The episode first aired on December 18, 1997. Since then many people have been inspired by the goodness of the Seinfeld holiday and they now celebrate Festivus as any other holiday.

According to the Seinfeld model, Festivus is celebrated each year on December 23rd.

Instead of a tree an unadorned aluminum pole is used, in contrast to normal holiday materialism. Those attending Festivus may also participate in the “Airing of Grievances” which is an opportunity to tell others how they have disappointed you in the past year and then the “Feats of Strength”.

The true story of Valerie Solanas, the radical feminist who became notorious after shooting art world icon Andy Warhol.

This Shadowbox Event will be the kick off for the upcoming three part exhibition In the Event of Andy Warhol. Washington & Lee University, Roanoke College and the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins University have been fortunate to be selected by the Andy Warhol Foundation to receive collections of Warhol’s P…olaroid’s and black & white prints as part of the Warhol Photographic Legacy Program. This collaborative exhibition of Warhol Photographs will also include works by contemporary artists that are inspired by or reference Warhol in their work. In the Event of Andy Warhol will preview at Washington and Lee’s Staniar Gallery from Jan. 9 – Feb. 4, 2012, Roanoke College’s Olin Hall Galleries from March 1-April 1, 2012 and end with the edition of original Warhol works paired with artists that influenced him as well as his contemporaries at the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum from May 31st -September 15th, 2012.

During this Shadowbox event there will be the opportunity for individuals to create their own Warhol “screen test” that will be shown during this three part exhibition.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Midnight Screening)

Info on the cast: The Tolls of Madness Cast began performing at Virginia Tech in 1993. The cast has participated in Rocky Horror conventions across the country where they have won prizes for their costumes and preshow performances. In 2001, the cast became one of the first groups to stage an amateur production of The Rocky Horror Show, the musical on which the movie is based.
